I Spy...Tassel Earrings on Natalie Portman!

The tassel earrings (by Tiffany's) Natalie Portman wore with her Rodarte dress to the Oscars looked so elegant and beautiful. They were the perfect almost shoulder-sweeping length and in that same outstanding color her dress was. She truly glowed. As soon as I saw those earrings I immediately thought of this DIY I saw by A Pair and a Spare a couple of weeks ago. I wasn't extremely keen on them at first (they weren't very much my personal style), but after seeing how subtle and  lovely they can be (as shown on Natalie), I just might whip myself up a pair..or five. Hers are actually beaded, but I think the "plain" tassels will look just as good, if a bit less dressy. I'm definitely thinking that at least one pair in a nautical gold or navy blue and the exact length of Natalie's would be fab.

Kate

She's so Stylish: Claudette Colbert in "It Happened One Night"

I'd like to start off by saying I adore Clark Gable. I have ever since I first saw "Gone with the Wind" in fourth grade and always will. He is the quintessential leading man, and his Academy Award win for his role in "It Happened One Night" was well warranted.

And now, my point. Claudette Colbert dazzles in the film as Ellie Andrews, a bratty heiress. Classic clothes are my passion, and I'm always looking for ways to put an interesting spin on timeless silhouettes. Enter Colbert's wardrobe in "It Happened One Night." She wears basically one outfit through the entire movie -as the premise calls for - but she wears it well. Those hemlines. That cardigan. That hat, and those STRIPES! The whole outfit is gorgeously put together. Not to mention her wedding dress. I really do get excited.

And below, the famous "Wall of Jericho" scene featuring Colbert and Gable's perfect clothes. Enjoy.

Love ya bunches,
Kate

She's So Stylish: Esperanza Spalding

Probably the most memorable moment of the 2011 Grammy Awards was when Esperanza Spalding won the Grammy award for Best New Artist, beating out...Justin Bieber. I didn't know who Esperanza was, but I was beyond glad that it had been proven the Grammys aren't a popularity contest (in this case, at least). Winning this Grammy could be one of the best things to happen to Esperanza's career. After her win, I decided to find out what she's all about and what her music sounds like. Needless to say, I was astonished at how talented she is. Her voice is marvelous and buttery smooth. She's an instrumentalist, which is a refreshing quality for a young women in the music industry these days to have. Plus, the music she plays is superb. If her win does for other people what it did for me, many will be benefiting from her music for years to come.
And another thing: she knows how to wear clothes. Nylon Magazine's blog has already featured her as "best dressed." She is so beautiful, and possesses a gorgeous mane. Her outfits have an effortless appeal to them and are amazing - she looks good without seeming as if she's trying too hard. And, as proven in the video below, the girl can accessorize. I'm really liking that scarf.

Kate

"I see YOU, Jesus"

Dara Joy is such an anointed worship leader. This song by her is so amazing and reminds us that the most important person to look to is Jesus. Rather than focusing on whatever else is going on in our lives,we need to look to Him. Only then will our lives be whole and complete. In John 15:5, Jesus says, "apart from me you can do nothing." However, in Him we are empowered fully and equipped to live out His glorious plan for our lives. As long as we stay connected to Him, we will "bear much fruit," as the beginning of that same verse says. So often we get caught up with seeking and striving after worldly success and material things, and let go of the things of God. The truth is, God wants you to be blessed in every area of your life, including money and material possessions, but He doesn't want you to abandon His ways in the quest for them. Proverbs 10:22 (KJV) says, "the blessing of the Lord, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow to it." Our prosperity should come from the Lord and His blessing on our lives. Matthew 6:33 (also in the King James Version of the Bible) says, "seek ye first the Kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you." It is very important to remember to keep ourselves focused on seeking the things of God unconditionally. Rather than worrying and fretting over how you're going to change your current circumstances, look to Jesus as your Healer, Provider, and the supplier of your every need, because when we put God first and become a doer of the word, as the book of James says to be, blessings will surely abound in your life. Don't look at the sins you may have committed. Look at Jesus. Look at the fact that after repenting of them you were covered by the Blood and completely forgiven - "Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God's right hand (Col 3:1, NLT). Focus on the realities of Heaven that you are forgiven and blessed. Look to Jesus for the provision of all of your needs, and He will take care of you. In Him is all we could ever desire. After all, He came in order for us to "have life, and have it more abundantly (John 10:10, NKJV)."

Love is a Many-splendored Thing

Love is a Many-splendored Thing
Love is a Many-splendored Thing by PrettyKeen featuring ankle heels
A great utilitarian look that works any time of the year. The army green jacket works on all skin tones and is a great neutral. The skirt brings a playful and girly perspective in. For a more classic look, you can pair the jacket with khaki pants, jeans, or other basics. The gold accessories add interest and work well with the other tones of the outfit.

Simple and Gorgeous. The jacket is exquisite - it's so soft and feminine. The pants add just the right amount of structure while still maintaining a certain flowy-ness seen in the jacket. Lanvin's pieces are some of my favorite...expect them to show up again. His flats, of course, are classics and very popular among many, and this color combination works very well. The pearl bracelet is a great girly touch and isn't distracting in the least.
Love Always,
Kate

This wrap is a great look for nearly any time of the year. It' so elegant and understated - pulled together, yet never overdone. Once again nude heels show up in one of my outfits. I really think that they're a great investment and are extremely flattering, versatile, and clean.

I really like this outfit - the bolero jacket is gorgeous in a very girly but unoffensive shade of pink. I like that the skirt has a softer and more fluid look to it and a bit of detailing - but not too much. I avoided patent leather for the shoes because I wanted to carry the matte look through the entire look. Classic diamond jewelry appropriately compliments this timeless but interesting look. :)
