Femininity

Femininity

Femininity by Pretty Keen featuring a silk bow blouse

I really like this look. The yellows and greens give it a very fresh feel and the polka dots are very playful. I experimented with texture handling the leathers of the bag and flats with the chiffon of the blouse and that exquisite sheen of the skirt. Tie-neck blouses are lovely, and the diamond bracelet is of course, a very nice touch too. :)

"I Enjoy Being a Girl"

Is it novel that I've contemplated placing this video in the "About Me" section of this blog? It really gives almost an entirely spot-on description of myself, and "Flower Drum Song" is now on my list of movies to watch. Anywhoo, hope you've had a lovely Saturday!

Presenting...Penny Chic

Hey all! This time I wanted to do something a little different and dedicate a post to a certain blog I have really been liking recently. The blog is titled Penny Chic, and it is so amazing. The whole idea behind Penny Chic is "putting Wal-Mart on a fashion pedestal" - and it's executed brilliantly (you can get an idea by viewing the video above.) Using only clothes and accessories from Wal-Mart, Shauna Miller, the founder (who has a great professional background in the fashion industry), styles looks that are fashionable and relevant. Being a bargainista myself, I understand the thrill of creating something fabulous for under a certain budget. Penny Chic is not only about that, however. It really is great to see a project like this empowering women everywhere to not be ashamed of appreciating a great deal. Most recently the blog has begun featuring looks for men, and Shauna's first male model was a friend of hers with some astounding styling credentials himself. SO fab!

Appreciate the chic,
Kate

Liking Lilly

Sandal, $168
Tote bag, $118
Necklace, $118
Lilly Pulitzer scarf, $168
"Lilly Pulitzer" Just a Little Knotty Wedge at Lilly Pulitzer, $178

Recently I saw a Lilly Pulitzer add featuring some lovely things, so I headed over to their website and sure liked what I saw. Summer is beginning and now more than ever it's time to kick the nautical look into full gear. The items above are my favorites and I like them all for pretty much the same reason: their summery, nautical glamness. The metallic sandals would look great with white jeans, the striped tote is a sweet basic with a pop of pink, the necklace is an awesome touch to an understated, casual look, and I have never seen such a perfect pair of espadrilles. That leaves us with the Murfee scarf. I've been wanting a Lilly Pulitzer Murfee scarf for a few months now and am thinking this may be the print for me. The navy blue keeps it versatile and basic while the sailboats are seriously preppy. Plus, it has a healthy dose of pink, and we all know I appreciate that. :)

Happy Sailing,
Kate

Fresh and Fun

Trina Turk stretch top, $198
St. John Yellow Label cotton stretch pants, $395
Valentino heel pumps, $745
MARC JACOBS 'Lola' Eau de Parfum, $88

With summer in mind, I decided to post this set I put together for a contest held by Nordstrom a little while ago. My main objective was to keep the look...fresh and fun, what else? The colors are so enticing, and just exude a summery chic, resort-style feel. The structure of the shoe is so beautiful, it's no wonder they're Valentino. Slender white pants are a wardrobe staple and have just the crispness the other pieces need to really be rocked. And the perfume? Well, the bottle just seems to fit, doesn't it? ;)

XOXO,
Kate
P.S. Happy (belated) Cinco de Mayo!
